Cape Lookout Lighthouse

Getting there is part of the journey. The ferry, she takes you along the core sound, venturing through the waters with the sun on your face. Happening upon the wild Spanish horses – Shackleford Horses whose grace and beauty is astounding. Then the arrival, upon which your experience will be heightened in complete and utter delight.

Down that road, turn left at the bend and right at the old oak tree. Park in the area between the two cypress. Walk over to the right and continue through the two magnolias on the dirt path about half a football field. Climb through the gate and you will see her – the Train Lady.

Is it really winter? No wait – Summer in fall.

In the midst of natures crazy cyclical weather patterns I captured a beautiful splash of fall color at the World’s Largest Rotary Wheel.

Greenfield Lake Park is where the Rotary Wheel is located and is just spectacular in its fall display in December with temps in the 80’s.

Flattened Ginger Ale

Perusing the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center at the Easterd of Harker’s Island, came upon another rounded bottom ginger ale bottle. There are no markings, however, the color and thickness of the bottle is similar to that of the Ross Bellfast Bottle, dated 1870, I found in the sand of the Cape Fear River back in February 2013.

Tregembo Animals

Lions, tigers and bears -alright!

There is this little, small-town zoo: Tregembo Zoo – Wilmington, North Carolina.
(http://www.tregemboanimalpark.com/) for over 50 years the Tregembo family has been zoo-ing it! This zoo is one of the best attractions in Wilmington. Where else can you go in Southeastern, North Carolina and feel like you had a chance to be like Dr Doolittle and travel the world to see exotic animals?

From peacocks:

Buzzards, Vultures in the Marsh

Up high patiently waiting for clearance to swoop down and steal a bit of the roadside kill – a decaying kit fox next to the marsh bridge were two Turkey Buzzards, also known as Turkey Vulture.

My admiration is of the wing span size and essence of survival. Definitely not for their beauty, as they are grotesque and vicious looking.
